Training Classes

All trainings have an associated fee, with the exception of DOE courses that do not have student fees. The class fee will normally be $5, $10, or $15.

Students must fill out a registration form. ELC must receive all fees and registration forms prior to 48 hours in advance of the class. PayPal, money order, checks and “no change required” cash are accepted to reserve a spot in a class. Cash is only accepted in person at the ELC office. Do not send cash in the mail.

Standard First Aid with CPR/AED-Adult and Child and CPR-Infant

Priority in registration for this class is given to any person working in a Manatee County early care and education program. This training meets licensing requirements for persons working in child care facili-ties or family child care homes. Participants must pre-register and pre-pay. Registrants must notify ELC by phone by 8:00am Friday, May 11th if they cannot attend to qualify for a refund. The course has 16 spaces, and they fill quickly. Participating students take with them pediatric and adult skill cards, and a keychain with breathing barrier and gloves.

Explore the 2008 VPK standards and their benchmarks for Language and CommunicaƟon and Emergent Literacy.  Participants will examine the standards, engage in active practice of strategies to lead students toward achieving the standards and benchmarks, and discuss methods of implementing those strategies in their own classrooms.

When a Parent Has a Concern

Describe challenging conversations that are parent initiated, describe and demonstrate effective communication strategies to use with parents, assess and acknowledge change as a result of the training, and articulate ways to use this new knowledge in working with families and other adults.

Early Childhood Family Involvementis a one-day professional development course that focuses on helping families learn how to support their child in school and at home. The emphasis is on getting families actively involved in their child’s learning and helping them to see the important role they play in their child’s development. During this course, participants explore both Epstein’s Framework of Six Types of Involvementand the many ways to involve families in the learning process. Participants also examine the importance of establishing a strong partnership between the school, community, and home.

Course: Why Does it Do That? Science Studies that Build Every Domain

Mary Ann and Marcia provide large group sharing, training, and coaching to assist providers with increasing the skills of their students by refining their classroom practices.  Special attention is paid to helping providers use information they glean from sources like the VPK Assessment to inform their instructional practice.

NOTE:  ELC strongly encourages LPP’s to attend these sessions as part of their improvement strategies and plan.
