Training Classes

All trainings have an associated fee, with the exception of DOE courses that do not have student fees. The class fee will normally be $5, $10, or $15.

Students must fill out a registration form. ELC must receive all fees and registration forms prior to 48 hours in advance of the class. PayPal, money order, checks and “no change required” cash are accepted to reserve a spot in a class. Cash is only accepted in person at the ELC office. Do not send cash in the mail.

Course: Florida Early Learning & Developmental Standards for Four-Year-Olds 4/10/14
Thursday, April 10, 2014 4:00pm - 7:00pm

This training provides an overview of the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards for Four-Year-Olds (2011) and examples of developmentally appropriate instructional techniques for four-year-old children.

It addresses the history and development of the Standards through a PowerPoint presentation, video clips, and  hands-on activities. This is an instructor-led course. It is not offered online. Cost is FREE for all participants.

Course: American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED for Adult & Child - 4/12/14
Saturday, April 12, 2014 8:30am - 2:30pm

Learn the appropriate techniques for applying standard first aid procedures and cardiopulmonary resuscitation with and without AED’s.

Cost: $50.00 per participant, $35.00 for those in QRIS programs.

8:30 am-2:30 pm (1/2 hour lunch)

Register with payment by two business days prior to each course. Cancellations received at least two business days prior to each course will be eligible for fee transfer/refund. After that time, no transfers/refunds will be issued.

A twenty person limit will be maintained in order to maximize participation.

Course: Early Math & Science - A BLOCK Fest Training 4/17/14
Thursday, April 17, 2014 9:00am - 3:00pm

Take a journey through the how’s and why’s of teaching math and science to preschoolers. Early Math, Blocks and Learning, The Adult’s Role in Block Play, Early Science, and Special Challenges/Blocks and the Whole Child are the five modules presented.

Course: Director's Forum 5/1/14

Network, brainstorm, and learn from other directors about common topics or current events. Part of each meeting will inlcude a discussion of curent legislative issues including recommendations from the Early Learning Advisory Council, FLAEYC, and FACCM. Main topic is yet to be determined.

This professional development training is appropriate for VPK directors, administrators, and teachers.

Participants will learn how to interpret the VPK Assessment scores and how to use them to inform classroom instruction. This is an instructor-led course. It is not offered online. Cost is FREE for all participants.

Course: How to Administer the ASQ-3 & ASQ:SE 5/20/14
Tuesday, May 20, 2014 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Topics including screening and assessment will be discussed as well as exploring the new features of the Ages & Stages Questionnaires Third Edition and the ASQ: Social-Emotional Screening Tool. Participants will be actively involved observing children and completing ASQs.

Register by May 19, 2014 with paid fee.

Course: Provider Meetings 5/22/14

Provider meetings are a way to provide training and technical assistance to our school readiness and VPK providers on a variety of pertinent topics. Training credit is awarded for attending and participating in these meetings. Pat Scorzetti from Becker School Supply will be joining us.

Course: Teaching Strategies GOLD Overview 5/29/14
Thursday, May 29, 2014 6:30pm - 8:30pm

In this training, participants will be provided with an overview of the Teaching Strategies GOLD observational assessment system. We will review its purpose, structure, identify key aspects of the system and review the assessment cycle.  Participants will actively observe children in video clips, assigning an appropriate level to each based on their observations.

Course: Frog Street Pre-K Curriculum 5/29/14
Thursday, May 29, 2014 6:30pm - 9:00pm

Frog Street Pre-K is a comprehensive, research-based program that integrates instruction across developmental domains and early learning disciplines. The program is engaging for both teachers and children and is easy to implement!

Svetlana Montgomery from Frog Street will present an introduction to using the Frog Street Pre-K Curriculum that will include how to implement Conscious Discipline, Dr. Becky Bailey's work.

The cornerstones of the program are:
