Training Classes

All trainings have an associated fee, with the exception of DOE courses that do not have student fees. The class fee will normally be $5, $10, or $15.

Students must fill out a registration form. ELC must receive all fees and registration forms prior to 48 hours in advance of the class. PayPal, money order, checks and “no change required” cash are accepted to reserve a spot in a class. Cash is only accepted in person at the ELC office. Do not send cash in the mail.

Course: FREE Mind in the Making Workshops
Monday, January 2, 2017 7:00am - 6:00pm

The Early Learning Coalition is a proud member of the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading. Through the generosity of The Patterson Foundation, community partners have been trained to offer a series of workshops on building executive function in children.

FREE Eight 2-hour workshops, offered weekly or bi-weekly

We must have a minimum of 15 persons register, with a class-size limit of 20. This course is for caregivers, parents, teachers, principals, community stakeholders – anyone who is interested. Mixed groupings are best. If some of your staff are interested, perhaps have each invite a parent or two to join the group. Course: ASQ3 & ASQ:SE Overview 1/18/17
Wednesday, January 18, 2017 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Topics including screening and assessment will be discussed as well as exploring the new features of the Ages & Stages Questionnaires Third Edition and the ASQ: Social-Emotional Screening Tool. Participants will be actively involved observing children and completing ASQs.

VPK providers are invited to attend the next VPK Learning Circles offered by our DOE/OEL Regional Facilitator, Mary Ann Goodrich. Course: American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED (Full Course) 1/21/17
Saturday, January 21, 2017 8:30am - 2:30pm

Learn the appropriate techniques for applying standard first aid procedures and cardiopulmonary resuscitation with and without AED’s.  Certification from the American Red Cross is good for two years.  Participants take home Adult and Pediatric Ready Reference cards.  Participants must supply a unique email address that the American Red Cross will attach to their training record. Limited class enrollment. Inservice hours: 5.5

Course: NEW! Early Mathematics for Early Learners: Making Sense of Sets & Numbers 1/23/17
Monday, January 23, 2017 5:30pm - 8:30pm

PLEASE NOTE: Those who have completed this first DOE math course will be the first invited to take subsequent DOE math courses. 3 hours; 0.3 CEUs

This instructor-led course is appropriate for directors and teachers of 4 and 5 year old children. Course participants will gain early math knowledge and practical information about how to structure the classroom environment and plan activities to integrate math concepts and skills throughout the learning day. The course focuses on the mathematical thinking number sense standards outlined in the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards for Four-Year-Olds (2011) and the importance of using a developmental progression when teaching math throughout the day. Picture slideshows and videos filmed in Florida’s early learning classrooms as well as interactive activities will provide examples for how to support children in learning new math skills and using the “language of math”. The pictures and videos presented will also demonstrate best practices for instruction of the mathematical thinking number sense standards outlined in the Standards for Four-Year-Olds. Training on the Standards for Four-Year-Olds (online or instructor-led) is a recommended prerequisite for this course.

Course: Introduction to CLASS: What Is It & How Does It Affect Me? 1/24/17
Tuesday, January 24, 2017 6:30pm - 8:30pm

This course will take a look at the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), a quality improvement assessment tool that will be used by the Early Learning Coalition for its Quality Counts for Children Manatee (QRIS) program and as a basis for quality improvement initiatives in all school readiness providers. This tool measures teacher and child interactions in the classroom. This session will introduce the three age groups (infant, toddler, and preschool), explore dimensions of each, answer questions providers may have about the process, and introduce the availability of future courses that will be offered (cost may be offset by the Professional Development Reimbursement Scholarship).
