Training Classes

All trainings have an associated fee, with the exception of DOE courses that do not have student fees. The class fee will normally be $5, $10, or $15.

Students must fill out a registration form. ELC must receive all fees and registration forms prior to 48 hours in advance of the class. PayPal, money order, checks and “no change required” cash are accepted to reserve a spot in a class. Cash is only accepted in person at the ELC office. Do not send cash in the mail.

To reserve a spot in classes that do not have an associated fee, or for general questions, please call the Early Learning Coalition at (941) 757-2900 extension 250.

Course: Integrating the Standards: Phonological Awareness 7/6/16
Wednesday, July 6, 2016 4:00pm - 6:00pm

Participants explore creating a developmentally appropriate   activity, related to a benchmark in phonological awareness.  Emphasis is on planning, implementation, teacher self-reflection, and documentation of the activity.

Participants must register on the DCF/TMS system online at http://www.myflfamilies.com/service-programs/child-care. Select Training and Credentialing, and then Course Registration. Change the search criteria from“DCF” to “DOE” and search for Course #6779. Courses are free but limited in enrollment; let your instructor know if you cannot attend.
Each course receipt has information about food, parking, admitting time, and more. To confirm registration, log into your training transcript on the DCF website. At the top of the transcript, select the tab “ My Courses.”  A list of both completed trainings, and scheduled courses will be viewable.

Course: How to Administer the VPK Assessment 7/7/16
Thursday, July 7, 2016 8:30am - 11:30am

In this course, participants will learn the purpose of the VPK Assessment as well as how to administer, record, and score each of the  assessment measures.  Practice with videos is included.

Course: VPK Assessment Instructional Implications 7/7/16

This professional development training is appropriate for VPK directors, administrators, and teachers.  Participants learn how to interpret the VPK Assessment scores and how to use them to inform classroom instruction.

Course: ASQ3 & ASQ:SE Overview 7/13/16
Wednesday, July 13, 2016 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Topics including screening and assessment will be discussed as well as exploring the new features of the Ages & Stages Questionnaires Third Edition and the ASQ: Social-Emotional Screening Tool. Participants will be actively involved observing children and completing ASQs.

Cost: $5.00 per participant, FREE for those in QRIS programs. Participants must register with payment by July 11, 2016.

Course: Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Full Course 7/23/16
Saturday, July 23, 2016 8:30am - 2:30pm

Learn the appropriate techniques for applying standard first aid procedures and cardiopulmonary resuscitation with and without AED’s. Certification from the American Red Cross is good for two years. Participants take home Adult and Pediatric Ready Reference cards. Participants must supply a unique email address that the American Red Cross will attach to their training record.

Cost: $50.00 per participant, $35.00 for those in QRIS programs. Participatns mus register with payment by two business days prior to each course. Limited class enrollment. Inservice hours: 5.5

One-hour session, by appoitnment only. Demonstrate the current (new) appropriate techniques for applying standard first aid procedures and cardiopulmonary resuscitation with and without AED’s. Certification from the American Red Cross is good for two years. Participants take home Adult and Pediatric Ready Reference cards. Participants must supply a unique email address that the American Red Cross will attach to their training record.

  • No review prior to demonstration of skills including final scenarios
  • Skill fails with no refund if all of the skill is not demonstrated [i.e. Saying, “Checking the scene to make sure it is safe” must occur for Before Giving Care (3 C’s – Check-Call-Care)]
  • Schedule your time, register with tuition, demonstrate skills

Cost: $50.00 per participant, $35.00 for those in QRIS programs. NO REFUNDS IF ALL SKILLS ARE NOT DEMONSTRATED ACCURATELY & COMPLETELY. Participatns must register with payment by two business days prior to each course to schedule appointment.  Limited class enrollment. Inservice hours: 1.0 hours

Course: Understanding Behavior In Children 8/24/16
Wednesday, August 24, 2016 6:00pm - 8:00pm

This training will be all about behavior in children. We will discuss what children are trying to tell us from their behavior. We will discuss ways to redirect behavior and use positive reinforcement in the classroom. Also, we will discuss strategies to manage challenging behavior in the classroom.

Cost: $5.00 per participant, FREE for those in QRIS programs. Participants must register with payment by August 22, 2016.
