Training Classes

All trainings have an associated fee, with the exception of DOE courses that do not have student fees. The class fee will normally be $5, $10, or $15.

Students must fill out a registration form. ELC must receive all fees and registration forms prior to 48 hours in advance of the class. PayPal, money order, checks and “no change required” cash are accepted to reserve a spot in a class. Cash is only accepted in person at the ELC office. Do not send cash in the mail.

Course: Teaching Strategies GOLD - Basic Course 7/28-7/29/2015
Tuesday, July 28, 2015 8:30am - 3:30pm

This 2-day course will provide an introduction to Teaching Strategies® GOLD™ as an assessment tool that informs instruction.  On Day 1, explore and learn to use the objectives for development and learning, and discover how the four steps of the assessment process link curriculum and assessment.  Participants will determine a system for organizing and managing gathered information.  Day 2 brings actual website practice for both teachers and administrators that includes uploading documentation, entering notes, updating checkpoints, and using key reports for planning and communicating.  Participants are encouraged to bring a lap top computer with them. This is the same as the online course.  There is no need to take this course if you can take the online course from Teaching Strategies.

Course: Take a Bite Out of Biting! 7/29/2015
Wednesday, July 29, 2015 6:00pm - 8:00pm

This presentation will be about the causes of biting among toddlers in child care.  We will discuss strategies to help decrease biting in the classroom.  Also, there will be a discussion on ways to get parents involved to help out at home.

Course: Florida Early Learning & Developmental Standards for Four-Year-Olds 8/11/15
Tuesday, August 11, 2015 4:00pm - 7:00pm

This training provides an overview of these standards with examples of developmentally appropriate instructional techniques for four-year-old children. It addresses the history and development of the standards (2011).

Course: How To Administer the VPK Assessment 8/12/15

Course: Sign Language for Early Childhood 8/20/2015

This training will be about the benefits of sign language for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.  We will discuss different ways to teach sign language to children and learn how to incorporate sign into the classroom. We will learn ways to add sign language into stories, songs and activities.

Course: American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED 8/22/15
Saturday, August 22, 2015 8:30am - 2:30pm

Learn the appropriate techniques for applying standard first aid procedures and cardiopulmonary resuscitation with and without AED’s.  Certification from the American Red Cross is good for two years.  Participants take home Adult and Pediatric Ready Reference cards.  Participants must supply a unique email address that the American Red Cross will attach to their training record.
